Frequently Asked Questions
How do I book a physio appointment?
You can book a physio appointment by email info@physiointhesticks.co.uk or telephone 07398495819. Please leave a message on the voicemail as we are usually seeing other clients.
Where do I have my physio appointment?
We offer home visit appointments or online appointments.
Is an online appointment suitable for my condition?
Online appointments are suitable for 90% of musculoskeletal conditions such as back pain, sciatica, neck pain, frozen shoulder, osteoarthritis, knee pain, ligament sprains, muscle strains, muscle weakness and plantar fasciitis. If you are unsure please email us with a brief description of your symptoms and we can advise what is the most appropriate option for you.
Is an online appointment as good as a face-to-face appointment?
Online physiotherapy can save you time and offer great results. Research shows that the right management of injuries and conditions early on helps people to recover faster and stops problems from becoming bigger in the future.
Unfortunately, people often put off seeing a physiotherapist because it can be hard to take time out to visit a clinic in the day or challenging to travel if you are suffering with pain or mobility issues. We are able to guide people effectively through assessment and build a recovery plan with them online . Often people feel more comfortable in their own home, without the concerns about catching COVID-19. In 2020 the Chartered Society Of Physiotherapy have surveyed over 1600 physiotherapy practices who have been using online consultations. Whilst there were some difficulties if people were not familiar with using the technology, generally people enjoyed the convenience of seeing a physio in their own home and physios were able to assess people as thoroughly as a face to face appointment.
Our bodies are designed to move which is why physiotherapy is most effective with active care such as activity-based exercises, which we can do online, rather than passive treatments in clinic.
Can I reclaim my consultation fee back from my health insurer?
Many health insurance companies have changed their policies to include online and home consultations. We advise that you check with your insurer before booking your appointment as we do not deal with insurers directly.
How does an online consultation work?
Your online appointment will be carried out by a qualified and professionally trained physiotherapist who will talk you through the same set of assessment questions that they would ask in clinic. The physical assessment is modified but we still ask you to show us how well you can move and may ask you to perform certain tests or tasks while we watch.
During your appointment, your physiotherapist will provide you with advice about how to treat and manage your condition. The physiotherapist will prescribe exercises that you can complete in the comfort of your home. The exercise videos will be available to view as often as you need to ensure that you’re completing your exercises correctly. Your physio will discuss your progress and monitor how you are getting on in your follow up appointment. Amanda is highly trained to deliver this cutting-edge digital service and ensure that you get the best possible care and results from your treatment.
Your device needs a camera and a microphone, you can test this before your appointment. Once you have booked your first online consultation, we ask you to download and fill out the pre-assessment form found on the home page and email it back.
We will email you confirmation of your appointment and instructions on using Zoom. Please ensure you are ready for the online consultation 10 mins before the start time and check your audio and video settings.
We use a secure online platform Zoom – this enables us to screenshare parts of your treatment plan with you.
Please ensure you are viewing the online consultation with a laptop or tablet as we may ask you to demonstrate movements or exercises.
Please ensure you are in a private room – not a work place or public place – as we will be discussing your personal medical history and we may ask you to show your foot/ankle/knee/back/shoulder over the online link. Please consider this, as it may be easier to wear a vest top or shorts to enable this.
For your privacy we do not record the consultation.
After the consultation we will email your treatment plan. If you have any questions about the treatment plan you can email us and we will reply as soon as possible (please be aware we will be in consultation with other clients). Any further queries can be answered in additional online consultations.
Your medical records will be stored in accordance with GDPR.
Is an online appointment safe? What if I have a serious illness?
Online physiotherapy is safe and effective. Amanda is a fully qualified and professionally trained physiotherapist and will run through the same set of assessment questions that you would be would asked in a clinic.
This assessment will rule out any serious underlying cause or what we call a serious pathology, and flag any issues that need to be investigated in the same way as a face-to-face appointment would. If we feel further investigation is necessary we will refer you to your GP.
How much does a physio appointment cost?
You can book a physio appointment online for £60 for the first consultation, £55 for follow-up appointment(s).
Home visit prices depend upon how far the physio has to travel to your home and the duration of a visit 45-60 minutes. Additional mileage is added for home visits more than 8 miles away from Clifton-Upon-Teme.
How many appointments will I need?
We aim to give our clients rapid relief from pain and discomfort, but also help them manage and rehabilitate to prevent recurrences of the condition. We pride ourselves in getting results with as few treatment sessions as possible. We discharge our patients in an average of 3.5 sessions (including your first consultation) making Physio In The Sticks an effective way of getting you back to what you enjoy the most. For neurological or long term conditions we aim to improve your strength and mobility and help you manage your condition long-term - this may mean we see you once a week for a few weeks and then come back as and when you need us.
What questions will the physiotherapist ask me?
What do you want to get out of the treatment session?
Where are you experiencing any pain?
When did the problem first start?
Is there anything that could have triggered it?
When is the problem at its best and worst?
Is my personal information and data safe?
Your data is stored in line with GDPR and is not shared with anyone that it shouldn’t be. Online consultations are not recorded. We maintain the high standards of patient information and data security.
